Story Structure

Story Outline

To start with, you find yourself inside a small building surrounded by objects such as a bench, planters, and a desk. In front of you is a sliding door that continuously opens and closes, leading to an alleyway in front of the building. Once you pass through the door, you see two exits to the street, buildings, and a glass window. Above you, a large cargo drone moves in between the buildings. Out of nowhere, a speeding van crashes through the glass window, leaving glass shards on the ground. The other exit to the street is blocked by another van, leaving you stuck in the alleyway. Shortly after the crash, a smaller drone appears and slowly approaches the back of the van. The van’s doors swing open, and you are quickly kidnapped after you approach for a closer inspection.

You will then be taken through a tunnel (the rabbit hole effect), not knowing where you’re going or why you were kidnapped. This journey leads to a secluded room with a single window, and a spinning model of the city you were just kidnapped from. A deep voice will appear behind the window and speak to you. Since you don’t respond, a bright white light flashes before your eyes and suddenly you realise you are no longer in the room, but instead you are in an extra large version of the model city you just saw. Structures begin to rise from the ground and surround you, leaving no exit. Behind you is the window you just saw in the previous room, and before you can react, all the model buildings suddenly start to disappear into the ground leaving only the window.

Proposed Story Structure

Scene 1:

  • The user is in a small room with a sliding door, feeling safe and secure.
  • All the objects seem normal in the room, nothing is suspicious

Scene 2:

  • They notice the tall buildings surrounding them and drones flying overhead.
  • Suddenly, a van crashes through a large window and blocks off one of the two exits.
  • Another van drives past and blocks the other exit, trapping the user.

Scene 3:

  • The van door opens, and the user goes to take a look out of curiosity.
  • A drone flys from the sky and in to the back of the van.
  • They are then kidnapped.

Scene 4:

  • The user is taken through a tunnel of illusion, which transports them to another location.
  • Objects from the previous scenes fly around the user.

Scene 5:

  • They find themselves in a small room with one window and a spinning model of the city they were just in.
  • A voice from behind the window begins to talk to the user in a deep voice.
  • They are then blinded by a white light.

Scene 6:

  • When they open their eyes, they are now inside the model city as a small person
  • Small buildings start to rise up from the ground to surround them
  • Suddenly every building starts to disappear, with only the previous room standing.

Environment (Per scene)

Scene 1: A dark and long reception like room filled with benches and the occasional overhead window. In front of you is a sliding door, with a desk and planter just before it. Beyond the sliding door is the outside world where you can see glimpses of an alley way with drones flying around above.

Scene 2: The alleyway seen from the reception like room, featuring large buildings that rise above the rest, as well as another building with a sliding door. To your left is another building but this time with a glass window instead of a door. In front of you is two exits from the alleyway.

Scene 3: The same alleyway as scene 2, however a new perspective where you can the back of a van in front of you, and behind is an open space where a glass window used to be. Once again drones fly above.

Scene 4: A constant blue illuminating tunnel, repeatedly pulsing towards you. Assets seen in the previous scenes fly around you and exit the tunnel.

Scene 5: A small room with only a window and a rotating model of a city. The walls are bare and nothing can be seen behind the window.

Scene 6: A large version of the model city seen previously with the window and room seen behind you. You are situated on the ground so above is the sky high buildings

Asset Plans

To create an immersive experience, I will need a range of assets to act as decoration but also some to act as directional assets that will point the user to specific parts in a scene, such as an explosion or a crash. In line with my initial research, below is a rough list of assets I intend to explore and implement into my video in order to create a succesful immersive experience, while retaining concepts from my influences and the brief:

  • Flying Drones (Multiple sizes)
  • Vehicles (Cars, Vans)
  • Rubbish (On the streets)
  • Tables
  • Benches
  • Toy cars/Remote controlled cars
  • Weapons
