I have chosen to carry on the subject of music design and more specifically am looking to create a pop punk inspired conceptual design tour poster for a concept band.
Above is three posters I have handpicked and I believe present the idea of conceptual visual design in music. Each illustration depicts two topics, one of them being music and seamlessly merges them into a complete poster, where both subjects are noticeably connected. I particularly like the 3rd design where the artist has cleverly blended a guitar into a pinstripe suit for the strings of the guitar and a hand holding a cup, specifically where the sound hole is located on an acoustic guitar. The poster was designed for Fender in association with 100 Pipers (Whisky brand) in order to convey how the brand had a very close connection with music, which therefore brought their consumers closer to them. One thing I construe from this design, is that the artist is trying to convey that music is an important part of everyday life, just like the drinks you consume throughout the day. Alternatively, some audience’s may see that whisky is for those who want to enjoy drinking while relaxing, just like they would play or listen to music when they want to wind down.
The colours of the design are very minimalist however they represent the colours of the wooden guitars, the elegant black of some pinstripe suits and the golden brown of a luxury whisky. The artist has also used minor gradients to give the guitar depth, while also giving the glass a shadow. One would assume the artist used mostly the pen tool to create this which is a perfect example to refer to when creating my own piece of conceptual visual design in the form of a poster.
