Location – Practicality

One aspect we need to take into account when installing something for the public, is the practicality and any requirements we need to take into consideration.

Below I will list any ideas I initially have in regards to issues or requirements we need to look at, as well as a map of the location we intend to install this product in.

One of these would be safety; is this product going to be safe for everyone? This is something that we should take into consideration when coming up with ideas because we want the installation to be accessible to everyone without running into any safety issues that could potentially lead to injury and the complications that come with that.

In addition, is this product going to be safe itself where it is located? The location we have chosen is a seafront where water is pretty close. We need to make sure our final piece is either away from the water or even better, sheltered to avoid damage from the rain and any other bad weather.

Furthermore we need to ensure the installation is easy to use as well as intriguing. This will entice more of the public to view/interact with the product and overall make the exhibition a success!

One final point we should consider is the size in comparison to location. With everything going on in the world, we ideally need to avoid large crowds in a small space. This can be prevented with a few options. One being to place the exhibition in a large space where people can remain distanced while having a good view of the product. One other option is to have the installation be staffed so it can be moderated and prevent large crowds in one small location, possibly aided with the use of barriers. One disadvantage of this is it adds a further cost on to the product by having to hire possibly multiple staff to be there. This is something we could take into consideration when designing so we can possibly remove the need for workers.

These are just some points that in terms of practicality, we need to consider when designing and locating the final product.
